Unknown Satkosia Tiger Reserve - Odisha

Satkosia Tiger Reserve is situated in Odisha. I travelled with a group of 3 friends.

With a lot of anticipation of travelling to Odisha (previously Orissa), Satkosia Tiger Reserve, we started our journey from Kolkata.

Pre Travel requirements: 1. Booking of forest guest house (you need to send DD to forest office), & travel arrangement (ticket & cab booking). Carrying a lite luggage is suggested if its for a short trip. Recomended travel time is in winter, as summers are quite hot in this region. 

Day 1: Travel to Odisha by train (station Bhadrak). Take a cab from there you need to travel to Angul 116 km from Bhadrak. Road travel is also recomended as the highway to Odisha is very well maintained. We reached Angul by 6 pm, where we need to get the forest entrance permit & trekking permit. Yes this is probably the only forest where you can do a 12 km trek. From Angul you have to arrange conveance to the forest, we took an auto.

Reached the forest rest house in PURNAKOTA at 9:30 pm, had our dinner & drink & we settle down for the night.

Day 2: We started our trek of 12km from PURNAKOTA to TIKKARPARA. The journey was through the heart of the forest & is very thrilling. In summers the trek is not recomended for animal encounters. After reaching TIKKARPARA we were stunned, with the senic beauty of the surroundings. With the Nilagiri hill gorge & Mahanadi flowing from center. You will surely realise, that its matched with your childhood drawing of a hills & mountains. The river is infested with Crocodiles & Gharials. Truly amazing. Not to miss the accomodations are tents with good food served. 

After lunch we went to the CORE area of the forest & probably the only forest to allow you to do a core area trek. Entering the core area for 3 km more will make you feel the shiver in your spine. Inside the core area there is govt initiated crocodile & gharial research center.
